When I was asked to contribute to an inspiration shoot for well wed Magazine I was excited, honored and honestly terrified. Well Wed is a stunning publication and I have been a fan for years. When they reached out to the Maine and New Hampshire Market, I was excited to join the amazing team of Maine vendors to showcase our beautiful state.

This vision was given with a cluster of photos for inspiration similar to this:

So this is my layout.  My thoughts were this: I love orange, and fall screams to me certain flowers: dahlias, pincushion protea, scabiosa pods.  I wanted texture and depth in my flowers. So I added a deep plum to make the orange pop even more. I choose plum callas and thistles to add a richness to the orange roses, dahlias, pincushions and orchids.  The blues I wanted to pull out through the ribbon and vessels.  I LOVE auctions and got the vase from an estate sale. It is an asian inspired piece that popped beautifully with all the orange flowers.

The design elements was inspired by my husband.  I took my husband’s grandfather’s books, and trunks. I wanted to create a more masculine look for the shoot. That is how I made the boutonniere, no ribbon just a simple honeycomb dahlia pinned to the jacket.

There has been lots said about the ever controversial “FIRST LOOK”  The pros, and cons have been discussed on blogs nation wide.  I thought everyone knew all the talking points surrounding the FIRST LOOK. Yet, as I (amber) have been speaking at all the Maine Wedding Association Bridal Shows on the topic of  Wedding Planning 101, I was surprised by the number of brides questioning my reasoning for the FIRST LOOK!  Soooo, the ladies of Maine Wedding Podcasts:Audra, Amber & Kathryn decided to chat about it and revive our podcasting hiatus. However, being a visual girl myself, I decided to show you a few of my favorite first look photos, so you could see the proof of my deep resounding belief that it is an amazing moment for a couple to have.  Look for yourself: geniune, raw, unscripted connectedness, between to people who are about to take a great adventure, together.  The first look has so many practicul, and emotional reasonings, but as Audra said, have fun, listen to our rantings, then trust your gut.
